              March
                8, 2008
              Dear
                Fellow Domestic Helpers,
              Spring
time is here and it’s time to do some re-organizing and
cleaning of heavy winter clothes and blankets.
Nonetheless, instead of every time to remind you on how to be
a good domestic helper—this time I would change my format
a bit……..I would like to share with you which areas
we received comments/complaints from the employers often; so you
are aware of what the employer’s real concerns in order
to improve yourself on the job.
              First
of all, 1. Be courteous - Morning/evening greetings – greet
employer/family members every morning/evening with a smile and
offer them cup of tea or any drinks when they returned to home.
                2. Don’t neglect/isolate yourself from the children –
always be attentive to their needs: such as taking meals, bathing,
helping on homework, etc. 3. When you’ve made a mistakes
or break/damage something in the house, always report to the employer
                – do not keep silent until the employer finds out because
this will affect their trust on you. 4. Household cleanliness
and personal hygiene—always put your heart into your work
when performing the daily chores, don’t be sloppy and slacking
off on your work and take own initiative to check on other areas
in the house which needs re-arranging or cleaning while you have
spare time. Try not to wait for employer to ask you to do things.
In addition, always wash hands when you come back from outside
or before cooking or using the bathroom, take a bath daily, etc.
                5. Very important, respect the elderly in your house- be pleasant
and patient listening to their instructions or needs. 6. Try to
improve on your cooking skills or learn what kind of dishes that
the employers like the most or least – just remember –
it’s a really valuable experience to always open yourself
to learn different things especially you’re all lucky enough
to work aboard. 7. Do not use mobile phone during working hours
unless it’s an emergency. 8. You must respect your employer’s
privacy and do not gossip your employer’s family matters
with other helpers whose living by your neighborhood.
